AADC Black Alumnae Network Virtual Event Honors Black History Month
In honor of Black History Month in February, the Associate Alumnae of Douglass College Black Alumnae Network (BAN) will present a virtual event, âNot This Time: The War for African American History,â on Tuesday, February 6, at 7:00 pm ET, that will address the historical roots of the present fight for Black history.
The program will be presented by Dr. Deborah Gray White, pictured, Board of Governors Distinguished Professor of History at Rutgers and a Distinguished Fellow at Rutgers Institute for Global Racial Justice.
She is the author of Arânât I A Woman? Female Slaves in the Plantation South; Too Heavy a Load: Black Women in Defense of Themselves, 1894-1994; several K-12 textbooks on United States History, and Let My People Go, African Americans 1804-1860 (1999), in addition to other works and achievements.
BAN President R. Toni Howell Armstead â74 invites all alumnae and friends to attend and to experience the impact of our AADC community at this special program.
Black History Month is a time to reflect upon the contributions made by African Americans to our country and to the world. It is also a time to refocus and reflect on the accomplishments and continued work and struggles needed for social and racial justice. The responsibility for the eradication of racism and to embrace anti-racism, lies with each of us.
The AADC is committed to creating platforms and sacred spaces to have the needed dialogue to educate, create awareness, expose barriers, implement change and lead through our actions and deeds. As we continue to work towards an inclusive and equitable future, we honor the contributions of African Americans, our alumnae and friends. We value and appreciate Black history during this special time and all year.
