Undergraduate Service Award Prizes

This award is presented each year at Sacred Path by the alumnae to a Douglass student in any class who has made an important contribution to the greater community outside in any way with a project they have done unrelated to academic credit. The award is named for the late Leah Boddie, Dean of Students at Douglass College from 1926-1951, who is credited with the development of the Honor System which governed conduct at the College for many years. 

Established by the Black Alumnae Network (BAN) under the Associate Alumnae of Douglass College, BAN honors Jewel Plummer Cobb and her extraordinary career in STEM. She was also a former Dean of Douglass College. This award is funded by the Edward L. Hennessy, Jr. & the late Ruth S. Hennessy. Presented annually, this prize goes to a Black Senior who demonstrates academic achievement and a positive role model for other Black women.

Since 1949 a special award has been presented by the alumnae at Sacred Path to the outstanding Douglass senior who , by word and deed, has helped other students understand traditions and philosophy of Douglass College. The award is named for former Dean of the College, and, since 1981, has been funded by the late Philip A. Crockett, husband of the late Ruth Dill Crockett ’46. Think about a senior who has contributed something positive and productive to the image of the school and benefited classmates and the Douglass Community with outstanding participation in campus affairs for each of their four years.
